Just so I'm clear on scoring, it's the total of what you sell all your houses for, not your total worth at the end of the challenge?

Norma

That's right, Norma. When you move from one house to the next check out the lower left side of the move screen and you'll see the worth of the house you're moving out of. And don't forget that the furniture always stays. Good luck in the challenge! :)

Thanks Metro. I did have a few more questions, but I've just read the this whole forum topic and my questions were all answered.  Now I realize though, that plans I had for my couple will have to be changed because they would have gone against the rules. Off to do a bit of testing and look at property values.

I have a quick question.  Is it normal for the move out value, with the purchased item in the house (a cheap item in this instance),to be lower than the value the house was bought for?  It has happened to my family a couple times now, and I've made sure there is nothing in their inventories, and nothing has been moved.

I'm a little confused here (doesn't take much these days lol) but it says in the rules that we can increase the value of the house with one item (that part I get) and that we can find the value of our house in the bottom left corner of the move screen. What I just noticed though, was that value is only the value of the house. It remains the same whether you pack or sell the furniture. The available funds value on the top right of the move screen changes to reflect if you are selling or packing furniture, but not the house value. So my question is what value do we record. Do we just take the house value or do we take the house value plus the extra cash for furniture.  The latter would mean having to subtract your on hand cash from the available funds amount to get the correct total.

Yes.  The houses depreciate in value after purchase.

It's just the house value on the lower left portion of the move screen, Norma. That's your only figure you need to total for the challenge.

OK thanks Metro. One more question (I swear, I'll go and play then) so the next house we buy has to be a greater value, does that mean the unfurnished value has to be more (even though we would be buying it furnished) or can it be the furnished value.
Just want to get things clear while I'm still in practice mode.

It's furnished value, Norma. That's what should always be present when you're taken to map mode from the Move screen. When you're in the move screen and you click the House button, you'll go to map mode to choose your next house. Hover your cursor over the available homes and you'll see prices that include furniture.

Same here, I had to read through the entire topic to answer all of my questions, else I would have come to at least one wrong interpretation of the rules. It would not take much to make them clear for the first time reader, preventing the need of reading 21 pages of posts to clarify the rules.

I would like to see the second rule under Moving/Playing a House changed to:
For each house you may purchase ONE item from buy mode. You may not move or sell objects while in buy mode. Any items obtained through other game mechanics must be removed from the house/lot before moving out, but the buy mode item must remain.

I think that this would make the third rule obsolete, while making the current last rule absolutely needed (though I would drop the word untouched). We would still need to clarify public/private and gardening. To the end of Moving/Playing a House section I would add the rule:
You may not change any lot in any way that could perpetually change game play or lot values some examples include: leaving books or other objects, planting, stocking ponds, stealing, upgrading items, etc. However, you may harvest, collect, etc. In addition feeding the omni plant is banned.

These rules are longer but clear (I hope). At this point clarifying the rules helps people new to the forum seeing as most others have already read the rules and joined.

The current ruleset should be quite clear and obviously reflects anything that came up after the event started. Someone should not need to read through the entire topic to be clear on whether or not to do something.

Moving/Playing a House
  • ...
  • You can’t move or change anything (including upgrades) for each house/lot. You can only add value to each house with ONE purchased object that has to stay on the lot or in the house. In addition, you are forbidden to change any public/private lot in your neighborhood.
  • Your ONE object cannot be a replacement or upgrade for any existing object in a house.
  • Any reward object must stay in Personal or Family Inventory untouched.

Please explain how this clarifies painting, using a bookshelf, transfiguration, and collecting are good and gardening is not (even though you can dispose of the plant before moving). I did not find clarification for gardening till about page 13 and clarification on transfiguration till page 18. Anyway, let me know if how I rewrote the rules would be correct, because that is my understanding of the intent of the current rules and I do not want to break the real rules.

With painting, using a bookshelf, and transfiguration you are not changing a lot by simply using those items. With gardening you are changing a lot simply by throwing a seed in the ground. Your rewrite of the rules is fine and accurate, but the rule set will not be changed.

Finally finished this one.

Here is my total: 1431995

I have to say this wasn't as much fun as I thought it was going to be. But I'm glad I'm done. So close, but yet so far. :)

Yah I made a few mistakes, and couldn't pull off anymore home value. Once it's all said and done I'll mention my likes and dislikes of this particular challenge.
