The Sims 3 Create a World

Create a World – Beta (PC – Only) is a tool created by EA to allow us Players to create our own custom Worlds with lots, roads, sidewalks, shops, farm towns, you name it. Create a World is quite a cool thing but that doesn’t mean it is easy to use, far from it. It contains some tools familiar to the in-game tools, such as the terrain painting and the terrain relief (Shape) it may not look the same but it does the same. I have messed around with it and made up a silly little Island world which has taken forever to make and get right, so it is by far a long term project and not for the feint of heart.

Create a World is more commonly known as CAW (Such as CAS, or Create a Sim). The program is downloaded from The Sims 3 Site under Free Stuff. The program is separate to the game and opens in another window. To make a new world you go to file, New World (or CTRL+N) You then must decide on the appropriate and desired map type by clicking the to open the selection.

You'll be presented with the following options:

Mountain, River – Tiny, Small, Medium or Large
Mountain, Beach - Tiny, Small, Medium or Large
Flat - Tiny, Small, Medium or Large
Isle - Tiny, Small, Medium or Large

These also have heights which are as high as you would likely want to go, 100 is the lowest and 300 the highest. If you want a mountainous map then select a high 300, medium just go with 200 and for a flat desert type map select 100. I went with a Tiny Flat map, and that seems quite big to me. The following pictures show some of the tools you can play with.

Using the Create a World tool is challenging but is worth the effort. It is your custom place and you can build it how you like it. There are many worlds for download on the Sims 3 Exchange but you will probably find most of them will never be what you expected. So I strongly suggest having a go at CAW before you resort to that.
