The Sims 3 Island Paradise arrives June 25, and I will of course be covering the new features of the Expansion Pack. This time, I'm summarizing information from press releases to describe the biggest gameplay features of the new EP to inform visitors who'd like to know what to expect when they buy it. I'll link new articles to this page as they come. I cannot start until I've got a copy in my hands, and I don't get it any earlier than any other Sims player. As stated, I compiled this from press releases. The page combines information and screenshots that EA has released over the months since announcing the IP Expansion.

Isla Paradiso
Island Paradise's new town is called Isla Paradiso. This new tropical world has vast seas with islands to explore and make your home. The setting provides for many new activities for Sims that involve the water, like snorkeling, house boats, lifeguards, mermaids, resorts, and beach parties. The World features Uncharted Islands that Sims can unlock to find treasure chests and collectibles, and maybe even meet Mermaids. Sims will be able to use poolside bars, sleep in bungalows and walk across hot coals at beach parties. The setting is there, and this is yet another Sims 3 World that will look great with the Seasons Expansion Pack. EA didn't disappoint in making a beautiful island setting for us, and players who preorder the limited edition through Origin will get loads of extra content, such as the Island Survival pack that lets you dress your Sims as though they're surviving a shipwreck on a desert island. Beach activities have been expanded with more ways to have fun and relax in the sunshine, like building sandcastles with the kids, sunbathing on beach towels, splashing in the ocean water, and riding in paddleboats.

Island Hopping: Getting Around
The island setting of IP means boats were a necessity. All the major kinds of boats you'd expect to see are here: row boats, paddleboats, sailboats, and speedboats are all available to own and operate. Judging by the looks of the island there will be more of these going around than there are cars. Sims on House Boats may even find the pizza delivery guy pulling up on a jet ski to bring their meal. Set sail on the ocean and search for secret coves and uncharted islands with buried treasure. You may even find a new and beautiful location to set up a new Resort.

New Build Options: Water Building and House Boats
With patch 1.55, The Sims 3 has been updated to allow all players to build on the water, much as Seasons' patch brought Sims the ability to swim in the ocean. Now, beautiful docks, resorts and house boats may be built out into the water. House Boats come in a variety of sizes and shapes, but allow your Sim to live on the water just as they would in a home on land. The largest available house boat size wil be 20x15.

Sims Can Dive for Pearls, Seashells and Sunken Treasure in Island Paradise

Diving Skill: Snorkeling and Scuba
Sims can now explore beneath the water with the new Snorkeling and Scuba skills. This means that EA has included a variety of sea life that Sims can interact with, sea shells and bottom-dwelling fish. including Be wary as Sharks may want to eat your Sim for lunch. As Sims explore new dive spots, they will level the skill and it will allow them to find sunken treasure. Down below, Sims can dive for pearls and sell seashells. Sims who wish can explore underwater caves to search for treasures, but all must be wary of the Kraken that lives in its cave beneath the ocean depths. Sims can drown, running out of air, and will not be able to dive constantly, as a moodlet will block them -- but we all know testing cheats will probably take care of that. The new Steel Lungs Lifetime Reward should help with this as well.

The Sims 3 Island Paradise - Mermaid
Mermaid is the New Occult in the Expansion

Mermaids are the new life state available to Sims, and your scuba diver may encounter one beneath the ocean. Naturally, Mermaids' tails will change to legs when they want to walk on dry land. They have a hydration motive instead of hygiene, meaning they need to encounter water once in a while to be healthy. Mermaids will make the best divers because of their natural ability to breathe underwater and that they swim faster than normal Sims. Evil Mermaids can summon a school of Sharks to attack Sims in the water. It would appear that Sims can use a Lifetime Reward to become a Mermaid.

Another Beautiful Resort

Sims can visit Resorts in Isla Paradiso and enjoy the amenities they offer. Managing a Resort is one of the new money-making options available to players with Island Paradise. You will meet your customers' needs, set prices and design new additions to your resort to expand the business. You'll also be able to hire staff to tend to your guests and keep the place clean. Staff uniforms can be customized through CAS, which lets you set the look from casual to formal. Your Resort will gain in star rating to show its success, and your goal will be to attract visitors and rake in the Simoleons. High ranked Resorts may want to set up VIP areas for rich Sims visiting their hotel. Just don't let the place get too dirty or you'll find it infested with cockroaches. It sounds like a fun management simulation packed into the game, which reminds me of Sims 2 Open for Business.

Uncharted Islands
Isla Paradiso features 8 Uncharted Islands that have to be unlocked. One can be accessed simply by sailing up to it, but others require you to complete an objective of some sort. There is an opportunity chain you can get from resort desk clerks by asking for an adventure, making a five-star resort of your own, or finding a message in a bottle that unlocks an island instantly. Divers get great access to these, being able to unlock two Islands easily - one for them by going through a cave, and another through befriending a mermaid.

The Expansion Pack's new Profession is the Lifeguard. You'll be paid to rescue Sims from the sea and give them CPR if necessary. While the Profession isn't a big money-maker, it is required for completionists because 35 rescues unlocks and Uncharted Island.

In Closing
That's obviously not all that Island Paradise will offer, but I won't go beyond the information I've seen with my own eyes in creating this summary. You can expect us to have all the information on Island Paradise published within 2 weeks of release, with new information added to the guide as it comes. If you like what you see in this Expansion, you can buy it from EA Origin to support the Guide. Comments for this page will be opened on the day the EP launches.

I just sent in a comment about my five star resort getting roaches at Hobart's Hideaway. I found out why I was getting Roaches. If you go down a level and look under the starter hotels there is an EA planted roach box! So, no matter what you do or how clean your hotel is you will always have roaches unless you delete the box. I could not pick up the box even by using the cheat buydebug on. I could not delete the box using the sledgehammer tool! I got suspicious and started to look around more after I bought a Bonehilda. I was able to click onto the roach box using Nraas mods and now have a roach free resort!!! :) Just a FYI to anyone trying to turn Hobart's Hideaway around.

I purchased The Paradise Island today and once it was 100% loaded (which took ages!) it said

'This product requires an installed copy of The Sim 3. Please install The Sims 3 before installing this product.'

What does this mean and what do I do? Please help! :3:(
Do you have the Sims 3 base game installed?

um you need ti have sims 3 installed on your computer and then if you install the expansion back it should load up with it. If you have it on steam the process should be simpler. Just make you sure you have the normal original sims 3

Oh okay. So sims living in, let's say, Moonlight Falls or Sunset Valley, can't vacation to Isla Paradiso, they would have to move there permanently or I would have to start a new game to use it?
Isla Paradiso is not a vacation world right.  They could move there using the new feature or you could start a new game.  You could always have them move again but I'm not sure they could return to a town and it look just like it had before.  It was be one at the beginning stage.

Can the Kraken kill you and if so, what colour does your ghost appear as?
24th September 2013 1:27am
Simmylala says...
Don't worry, your Sim cannot die from the Kraken, but if you are on a boat (not a houseboat, one that can be stored in your inventory) the Kraken will appear, but it only takes your boat, so the Kraken is harmless in my point of view.

To prevent your Sim getting attacked by the Kraken, purchase the Lifetime Reward "Friend of the Kraken" for 25 000 Lifetime Points, and your Sim can attack other boats for some fun!!

Note: sometimes the option for the Kraken to attack the boat if grey, and says "the kraken doesn't seem to be able to attack this boat" or something like that. If you have a houseboat, sometimes you will see a large black shadow under your house boat in a squid sort of shape. That is the Kraken! When you see it, immediately pause the game and find a Sim on a boat and click on it. The Kraken will then attack the boat!!!

Hopefully this helped!

One of my mer-sims was sunbathing, got the Dehydrated negative moodlet and died. The Grim Reaper showed up, sent her to the Sim Afterlife, and then tossed down a towel, put up a pastel rainbow beach umbrella, and sunbathed!

I have a five star resort now with a maximum of 3 staff it will not allow me to add anymore help?? People keep complaining about roaches still? How do I fix this? I went there myself and upgrading everything to self clean and still people complain about roaches??? Help plzz anyone!? Do I need more garbage cans or something!? Note: I am trying to post about the c o c k roaches in the resort but when I try ti hit submit I get an error message in red saying.... Swearing is not allowed. Please remove the swear words from your comment.

/bangs head on keyboard
Unlss you see garbage everywhere there shouldn't be a need for more garbage cans.  As I've discussed with other people in the comments - roaches have started appearing underground at resorts. You don't see them because you're not looking in the right place.  Go down a level (even if you don't have a basement) and see if they are under there.  I would recommend reading some of the other comments as the fix for this can be found there or even on our forum on the Resort Tips Thread.

Just so you know the game has insects called roaches and they are not called anything else.  There is no reason to remove that particular filter as it does more good than harm.

Hai Carl, can I mix Pets+Supernatural+Season and IP for my games?
All Expansion Packs work together to make the game a more enjoyable experience with more possibilityes, so yes, you can own all eleven (as of Into the Future) and enjoy all the gameplay features they bring in one game.

Is there a problem with sims romantically interacting with merpeople? My sim can flirt with a mermaid, and she thinks he's being flirty, but when he tries to kiss her, she backs off.
This may be due to her traits and the level of their relationship. Remember most Sims unless already a romantic interest won't generally accept a kiss until they think the other person is at least "alluring." Insane and Neurotic Sims will sometimes back away from a kiss, too.

Thanks for answering. I guess he'll just have to be patient and flirt with her some more.

Simmylala says...
Sims can scuba dive in both ocean and pools. If they are scuba diving in the ocean, you cannot see what they see, but if you dive underwater on dive lots you can see everything they can see like sharks, fish, underwater caves, etc.

(you must have a high scuba diving skill level to dive under the Mermaid Grotto, Davy Jones' Locker, Pearl's Deep and Rock Reef, but when you dive underwater, please note that if you keep any raw meat or fish in your inventory, it attracts sharks and your Sim will get in a fight with it, is be careful, because you can die from sharks and scuba diving if you don't "Return to the Surface" to let your Sim breath some oxygen. Click on the ground while scuba diving and the option will come up to return to the surface)

Hopefully this helped :)

I became partner of many properties in island paradise for 200$ and owned them for 1000$ it was little awkward coz they were surprisingly cheap but now i get no profit at all from any , i bought Cruzita's diner and grocery ,and trade wind spa and bistro and book store
The profit you get from them is in proportion to what you pay.  There is something about combined rabbit holes that makes some of them extremely cheap.

Is there anyway I can prevent random sims(its usually paparazzi, but not all the time) from entering my apparently not so "private" houseboat? Seems to be happening alot and quite annoying!
We had some forum members put fences with locked gates on their houseboats. That might work.

Also, I have generations with IP, but I don't see most of the things available with generations in CAS... help!! Also I have supernatural, and I don't have an option to become a werewolf/vamp/fairy!!! Help!!!
Sounds like you have something causing problems. I would suggest a factory reset or an entire reinstall. Remove all CC and mods.

Has this happened to anyone else and does anyone know how to turn it back into a private island with the star on it you see from above?? I wish they just gave us an option to make it larger and buy more land for a price if we want too. When I go into Edit Town all I see in residential is apartment or residential no option for Private island lot:( Thx!

Hi. is there any way to split up my household into two? because i have alot of property in island paradise and i was wondering if i can use some of my houses and move some of my household like young adults to a new home and have their own family? Please help me. :-/
You can do it by having one of the adults use their phone from the inventory and choose move out, then pick who will move and what household you'll control. That family will live their own life while still being related to you - there's no telling what may happen in the home while you're not in control. You can only control 1 household at a time, and switch between them in the edit town screen. Pick their house and a menu will pop up, allowing you to take control there.

I don't have Island Paradise, but I might get it. I was wondering, is the island a world on it's own, or is it like in World Adventures or University Life where you can travel there, vacation style?
Isla Paradiso is more like Sunset Valley then China.

Okay, So I built this amazing resort on an island, toggled everything, hired all the staff, but no one is even coming to my resort. When I read the reviews, ive gotten about two stars, but it's apparently from "imaginary" guests, because my sims and the employees are the only ones showing up.
Do you have VIP rooms and an arch? I see guests use these items but beyond that I don't see the ones for the tower.
