The Sims 3: Politician - Super Popular Lifetime Wish Walkthrough

I usually hated trying to juggle all the friends you needed to ascend to the top of certain career paths in the previous Sims games. I decided I'd try to overcome this in the Sims 3 and make a Sim who would become leader of the free world. He'll also achieve the super popular lifetime wish. For a politician Sim, you need plenty of friends to raise your charisma. This is a bit different than the previous games which featured jobs that required a set amount of friends to get a promotion.

The Traits I Chose for my Charismatic Sim

Meet my Super Popular Sim. The Super Popular lifetime wish is a great achievement in the Sims 3 game. Great Kisser: I want my Sim to be able to cement long-term relationships with women easily, so I decided I'd try to do some kissing when possible and see if he gets the mood boost bonus. I'm hoping if I take females a little way toward loving him, they'll stay friends longer with less maintenance.

Genius: Not the most well thought-out pick here, but it fits the character considering he aspires to be leader of the free world. Maybe I'll try to make him Grand Master at chess later in his life. If I had it to do over again, I'd probably elect to take the good sense of humor trait instead, because I would be able to tell great jokes with my Sim, boosting my ability to make friends even further.

Charismatic: This was a natural choice for a politician. Chatting never gets boring, and the charisma skill will raise faster!

Friendly: He'll make friends faster, plain and simple!

Ambitious: This trait is doubly beneficial. My Sim will rise in the political career track faster and gain more lifetime happiness points when I fulfill a wish.

Super Popular: My Sim's lifetime wish is to befriend 20 other Sims. This should be pretty easy with the traits I've chosen.

I picked for my Sim to like Autumn Salad as his favorite food, as well as liking classical and the color green. Unfortunately, these don't have a major effect in the game, it just adds some personality to the character. I chose to start with an empty lot so that I could build a cheap house that wouldn't be hard to rig up as a party pad. The only 'luxury' in the house at the early game is a bookshelf. I'll earn money the honest way rather than cheating. I have to say that for now, watching my Sim eat on the toilet is pretty sad. Thankfully, some great easy to fulfill wishes present themselves early on and my Sim learns the charisma skill.

How He Progressed

Early Game
No Sim, you're not going to win many friends just making funny faces. You're going to have to socialize! My Sim is working hard at advancing in his career so that he can afford simple things like an oven. It's sad to see this be one of his wishes, so I want to fulfill it. After the first week, I hadn't yet accomplished that because while an oven would be nice, eating bread and jam sandwiches on the toilet is abhorrable. Carl the Sim was awarded two promotions in his first five days and had earned enough to buy a nice table for the kitchen. He invited a man over and befriended him and his baby over a pizza. I was very satisfied to have made one full friend and make it halfway with another in the park.

I am grateful to notice that you don't require a set amount of friends in order to advance in the careers. This is nice but almost a moot point considering that I am seeking to befriend twenty people for the lifetime wish. By the end of the first weekend I've picked up a total of four friends. I need to invite them all over at once to cement the friendships so I can focus on making even more friends.

The second week didn't treat my sim as well as the first. I had trouble juggling all his needs and going to work in a good mood while continuing to pursue friends. Maintaining the four I had presented a problem until I started partying in the third week. I finally felt my Sim could afford to buy a stereo and a bar to have some decent parties. As a politician, he actually did a campaign fundraiser rather than a normal party. He scored over 40,000 in campaign contributions because everyone at the party was happy. This helps him advance as the campaign funds stat appeared sometime around getting on the city council. It makes sense that a politician Sim has to raise campaign funds after every promotion. It's really an easy way to make more friends and the boost provided from having excellent funds helps to get more promotions faster.

MidgameMy Sim continued the climb up the social ladder by throwing parties and inviting the two friends closest to falling out of friendship along with three to four others who he intended to befriend. This worked really well as a method to continue to convert friends. I further learned the great impact of knowing about your acquaintances. When you know a sim, you can compliment specific traits about them. This works great for a charismatic Sim.

I tried to talk to everyone at my fundraisers or parties to help them have a good time. My Sim was gradually becoming a great chef, generally cooking very nice meals. This really helped make them happy. Upgrading the speakers on my expensive stereo also seemed to help a ton. Honestly, the handiness skill is a true gem overall. Upgrading with Self-cleaning and eventually earning the plumber skill challenge (which makes plumbing you fix unbreakable) cut back on the time you spend with household maintenance. I really think money is better spent decorating so that the sims present at your parties will receive a decorated moodlet which gives a helpful mood boost. When I ran out of people to woo, I hit up the park and gym for more acquaintances to call and invite. This helps to unlock the celebrity skill challenge, which makes building relationships even faster!

Achieving the Super Popular Lifetime Wish
With life getting easier, charisma soaring, and a recent surge in popularity, my Sim began rapidly converting new friends. A very nice perk of the super popular lifetime wish is that you also achieve a charisma challenge, Super Friendly Sim. This prevents friendships from decaying. Thus, once you have achieved the top level of the Political career track and made twenty friends, your Sim can do practically anything they want, and come to do it well.
