The Bedroom Furnishings & Items

The Bedroom is probably the room I spend the most money on when starting a new Sims household. Sims spend a guaranteed amount of time in here, so having a good decor bonus and a quality comfortable bed can help them in multiple ways.
The Bed
The Sims 3 comes with a large selection of beds. Some of them don't make sense statistic-wise, especially in the group that offer 4 Energy recovery. The first bed comes in at $300, while the last one to offer that amount of recovery costs $700. I wouldn't pay over double for the same stats. The single best value is the Single Sophisticate Bed at $1,450. Sleeping one, it has stats almost as good as the $3,500 sleep slave double bed. I think that spending $1,450 on a bed is not too much when it will give your Sim more waking hours and a great night's sleep that actually contributes to their Lifetime Happiness Points.
Alarm Clocks
To myself and a couple of players I've asked, alarm clocks are useless. I would only add one as an aesthetic to make the bedroom more believable. Truthfully, you can do a much better job waking your Sim in time to complete their routine before work. The Alarm just doesn't go off early enough.
Night Stands
Night Stands, or as the game calls them, end tables, can be a nice addition to the bedroom if only to raise its environment bonus. A night stand with a pretty flower, lamp, or small statuette is going to give a nice boost and not cost that much money. Couple that with a rug or painting and your Sim is sleeping in a beautiful room that will keep them happy all night long.
Dressers
Your Sim uses dressers to change and plan outfits for the day. They can also change into any career uniforms they've unlocked here. Dressers and wardrobes generally cost a bit but give a great boost to the room's score. For $850, the best dresser gives an environment boost of +5 and gives you an extra place to set items like lamps or collectibles to make the room even prettier.
Decorate, Decorate...
The furnishings of a bedroom are simple. Your Sim needs to sleep there. You should decorate this room earlier than the others as your Sim's guaranteed to be spending about a third of their time in bed. Make the bedroom double as an office or den for studying in smaller homes to get even more bang for your buck.
