All your cooking needs can be found here. From refrigerators to stoves, food processors and the dishwasher to clean up with. The Kitchen is one place where you can find Smoke Detectors and Burglar Alarms. You are also given some options to accessorize your Kitchen. Cabinetry not only provides an environment boost, but also makes a kitchen look more realistic. There's even a cheap pot rack that will give your Kitchen a little more personality.

Stoves
There are four different stoves available to the Sims 3 player. The earliest entry is the $400 SimmerChar Dual-State Stove. At this price point food is going to be cooked unevenly or burned, but for a cash-strapped Sim it's better to have one of these to help them learn by practicing recipes. The $1,400 Festus 44 may seem like the obvious buy, but the slightly cheaper Tri-Forge Stove boosts the rate Sims learn cooking.

Small Appliances
Generally, I avoid coffee makers because it takes time to get the energy and I can never make up for the cost. If my Sim barely uses something it's not worth buying. This category does however offer two options. The microwave can get you some cooking experience whlie being a better alternative to just eating quick meals from the fridge. Still, a stove will get you a lot more mileage. Good for a space crunch, nonetheless. Last there is the food processor, which is a must for any Sim that wants to pursue the cooking challenges. It'll speed up cooking time while improving the quality of the meals.

Refrigerator
Refrigerator choice comes down to two factors. How good it is at filling your Sim's stomach, and how long it keeps food fresh. The higher-end models are so cool looking that they will improve the room's environment score. The $375 Chillgood Fridge is actually junk when it comes to chilling things. As a quick meal dispenser, it's great for the price. Every step will get a little better in how well it satisfies hunger and how long leftovers will last. The Fresher refrigerator is the top of the line, costing $1800.

Counter Space
Counters are pretty important. They offer a place to install Dishwashers, Trash Compactors, and Sinks. They're also nice places for a Sim to prepare food. Especially large meals. Having some spare counter space is sure to come in handy from time to time. Nicer counters can boost a room's environment score, so consider looking for the best price/environment ratios. Islands give Sims a place to sit while looking more modern than a kitchen table.

Trash Compactors, Dishwashers
These two are debatable. They can save your Sim some time. A trash compactor lasts much longer than trash cans for disposing of indoor waste. Your Sim won't need to take out the trash as often. Dishwashers take care of dishes much faster than a Sim washing them by hand. I suppose both of these objects are something Sims will want as they get wealthier.

Sinks
Are pretty important. Sims can get a small amount of hygiene, and they serve as places to wash dishes. I don't jump straight to the most expensive sink these days. It generally looks out of place when it comes to kitchen decor. I prefer a traditional sink on the counter. It's also better to be able to install something under it, which isn't possible with the Sink in Despair.

I have a couple of cool new offerings from James Giddings, who not only shared valuable data on transfiguring tiberium, he also gave us a couple of handy autohotkey scripts to share.

Folks who hate the long load time when first starting their game, especially when it comes to loading a Dynasty or Legacy file, will appreciate the first offering. Jagid's Autolauncher is not a mod, but will help you all the same. Run this script from your desktop after a brief and easy configuration, and it will automatically open Sims 3, cancel the video, load the most recent saved game and pause your game when it's done. Automating this process lets you go do something else with your valuable time while the game loads. The second offering is a gem cut calculator, which will tell you just how much profit you'll make from a gem using the various cuts available. Download it from our gems page.

Building Contest #10 is up:

"Once Upon a Time...." That may be the start of a story but it's your job to set the scene! How can we have a story if there is nowhere for the story to be set? What would the Pigs do without their three houses, where would Snow White and the Seven Dwarves live? They need their homes and they've got to be right from a storybook!

Pam's Dreamweaver DecaDynasty Story is up to date. Here is where we last left off. If you ever want to check for the most recent, see her topic on the forum.
