The Sims 3 Journalism Career Track
This Sims 3 Guide was originally written for the PC and Mac versions of the game, but also will help owners of the console versions - PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. Please remember some info or numbers may have changed.
To apply for the journalism career track in the Sims 3, have your Sim head to the office building in town. This is one of my least favorite career tracks. They don't make a lot of money, and I'm none too fond of its special ability. Journalists need to do interviews with other Sims to write stories, as a job performance factor. You need to soften them up and get them in a good mood before they'll release the info. Interview could be useful to help you please or seduce other Sims by learning all their traits.

Journalism Career Events
There is only one high level event in this career track which requires a decision. You can either run an article on the school principal that is false, or pull the article. Running it will give your Sim a cash bonus, pulling it will give your Sim a relations boost with co-workers.
Earlier on, another event will come up. You'll have the option to apologize for a misquote for another Sim, or ignore it. Apologizing draws attention to the company's error and causes your Sim to take a job performance hit. Not apologizing will make another Sim dislike you. It doesn't reveal which Sim will be the target, it's completely random. So if you are afraid it's that one in a hundred shot that your Sim loses their friend, take it in the gut and apologize for the error.
Journalism Opportunities
There are many standard opportunities to be pursued here, which will require your Sim to head to a location and perform some task that will take a bit of time. Many are near duplicates of each other, for example interviewing a Sim at a specific location, checking on leads or staying late at work. You should always check on leads, because they will give your Sim a permenant raise.
The only variable opportunity is Writing for the Enemy. The higher quality the article, the more money you'll make. So be sure to turn in your Sim's best work. This is easily accomplished by making sure they bring only that copy to the drop off location.
Good Traits for The Sims 3's Journalism Career Track
Bookworm
Reading books helps with writing ability, and writing is used heavily here. This won't directly help them with the job itself, but may help them to make better stories.
Artistic
This increases the learning rate for writing ability by a small degree.
Friendly
Journalists need other Sims to open up and spill their secrets. Friendly will help your Sim to score that interview faster. Once you've got the scoop, head to the computer and write your story.
Charismatic
Charisma doesn't appear as a requirement for the journalism career until level 6. The charismatic trait will help in raising it faster. You should work on making some friends early in the Sim's career so this skill doesn't hold them back from promotions down the road.
