Carl's Sims 3 Guide - Skills, Traits, Careers, Rewards, and Lifetime Wishes for Ambitions and World Adventures

The Sims 3 Challenges
You're Hired! The Trump Challenge

This guide will chronicle my experiences attempting Metropolis Man's You're Hired! The Trump Challenge for the Sims 3. Full details of the rules and the current leaderboard can be viewed in that thread. I have to create two married Sims who will join the business career track. They can have no other revenue streams, other than the salary the business jobs offer and completing business opportunities. My Sims have to purchase 11 items for The Donald's wife while acquiring ownership in all businesses in Sunset Valley.

Since both Sims are to be in the business career track, I build their traits identically. After all, my goal is to get a respectable score. The husband of the duo will be Carl, and the wife, Ivanka. Carl took her last name in marriage. Looking back to the thread, I saw that coincidentally Metro decided to choose the exact same traits for his Sims. I suppose we're pretty clear these are the best for Sims in the business career track:

Ambitious
They'll strive for promotions and raises and be better at getting them. They'll also get more happiness points when they complete a wish.

Charismatic
Charisma is not a necessity for the business career, but it helps with socializing and along with schmoozer will help to improve relations with the boss and co-workers.

Workaholic
They won't get as stressed from working, and can use the work at home action on the computer. They'll also naturally gain job performance faster to help them get promotions much more quickly.

Schmoozer
Inter-office relations are the most important metrics for Sims in the business career. This trait is amazing for chatting with co-workers both inside and outside the office environment. It also helps to trigger the CEO lifetime wish.

Over-Emotional
They're going to be gushing happiness constantly from living good lives. This will give them a 25% bonus to all positive moodlets. It works for negative as well, but they won't be seeing many nasty moodlets.

Lifetime Wish: CEO of a Mega-Corporation
Both want to reach level 8 in the business career track as their lifetime wish. They'll go above and beyond and be power brokers in the end.

Their favorites are also identical. They both like the color blue, autumn salad and classical music.

The following items need to be purchased, in addition to owning all 11 businesses. The prices are below. Read the official rules thread for a bit more information on where to find them in buy mode. Because some of these are so expensive, I'm going to be tactful and wait until I own all businesses and have the grand total in cash on hand to purchase these gifts for the Donald's wife. Why? Because it will raise their weekly bills and every Simoleon is going to count in completing this challenge quickly.

WallVuu Standard TV - $8,000
SimLife Goggles - $9,500
Ambiguity Itself - $12,225
XS 4258p Laptop from Landgraab Industries - $4,000
Mad Llama Foosball Table - $6,250
Puck's Soliloquy - $7,300
Multifunction Seachlight Device - $4,500
The Plaza Gusher fountain - $50,000
F-Class Hunter-Killer - $75,000
Bwan Speedster YL - $85,000
Margaret Vaguester - $105,000

Grand Total for All Items: $336,775

I decide with their starting money being a touch higher than with a single Sim, I'll try to get them some nice property so they can get a beautiful vista moodlet while at home. This will help keep the lifetime happiness points rolling in. The beach property on Sunnyside Boulevard, for $6,800 should do the trick. It works nicely, and they both receive +31 mood while at home from the moodlet and their over-emotional traits. They'll live in a very small home at first. The only lavish item I purchase is the sleep slave bed for $3,500. The rest is all standard fare. I eschew the cheapest fridge for the next best one so that leftover autumn salads will last longer before spoiling. Their source of entertainment will be a television and cheap loveseat. I budgeted very nicely, and am able to afford a mirror for the duo to primp up before work to set their mood even higher.

Of course, they both head immediately to join the business career track, as that's a requirement of the challenge. With nothing else to do that first day, I send them to the library for some study time. Carl will specialize in handiness, and Ivanka cooking. This will help them out around the house. Carl can upgrade items to unbreakable eventually, and Ivanka will make one mean autumn salad to boost their moods before work. Leftovers won't give them the mood boost, so I'll try to make her serve meals in the morning as often as possible. The leftovers will be better than a quick meal after work to keep them moving.

At the library, they both manage to reach level two in their chosen skills, and fulfill a work from home wish using the library's computer. Each wants to take a class in charisma and gain a level in the skill, so I'm going to wait until the next day after work when they can afford it (if they can manage to get promotions). At home, Ivanka serves autumn salad while Carl tinkers with the shower. After dinner is served, they try to get to know their bosses. Ivanka invites over Iqbal Alvi, who doesn't feel like coming over, so she chats with him on the phone instead. Unfortunately, this does little to move the friends bar. Carl's boss is Nancy Landgraab, who accepts the invitation, allowing him to get to know her a little.

Neither gets a promotion the first day, and they're quite broke and can't afford the charisma classes. I decide to let them both get more fun time in by watching tv together, then each learns the charisma skill using the mirror. This eliminates the wish to take a charisma class, doh! However, because their job performance meters are in nice shape to guarantee a promotion, both suck up to their respective bosses all day at work. They get their promotions, and the raises that come with them. Ivanka invites over Iqbal to befriend him while Carl delivers a spleen to the hospital (business opportunity).

The next day, neither scores a promotion but instead work on meeting co-workers. I knew they couldn't get the promotion in a single day because the boss metric is green for neither. Unfortunately, only one co-worker is met between the two of them. Logically, I think that if they each invite their boss over, they can both meet one extra co-worker each. I give them both the Office Hero lifetime reward, and the next day meeting co-workers they do much better, earn their promotions and can now introduce more co-workers to each other.

They're both level 3 in business and at the end of the week, they both work a little swagger and make best friends with their respective bosses. That metric is now green, and they both have met all co-workers, which is also a green metric. They wish to befriend all co-workers at this point, which comes naturally with every career track. They spend the rest of their time getting charisma and their respective trade skills to at least level 3. Carl making the shower unbreakable will ensure no one ever has to go to work stinking. It was a very productive weekend.

The next day, they both get their promotions. Carl gets an extra raise during the work day for reading a business opportunity book. After work, both at level 4 in the business career track, they both get the multi-tasker lifetime reward. This will help a lot at work as far as getting future promotions, and with all metrics green, they're sure to get a promotion each and every day now if I can keep their mood high.

It works, and they get promotions the next two days. At week 2, day 4 and level 6 in the business career track, they're finally able to hold meetings. Each manages to hold two meetings that evening after work, earning them a quick extra $3,000. At this point, I decide I'll save up the $40,000 Simoleons it requires to partner in the Science Lab, I'll then go to the Stadium, Hospital, then Theater in that order. Those investments pay off the fastest according to my guide to investing in businesses in the Sims 3. All the lesser partnerships will be chump change once I reach the point of having deeds to those businesses.

They reach level 7 in business the next day, and hold two to three meetings each day after work. The goal of $40,000 is very close, with $25,000 on hand. They use power work instead of sucking up or chatting at the water cooler at this point, and only switch to maintain friendships, or when the meter is going to hit maximum without them needing to work hard. This prevents loss of friendships at work. Switching it up, I can keep best friends for both Sims' boss and co-workers.

On week 2, day 6 they've both completed their lifetime wish of becoming CEOs. This allows both to afford the steel bladder and hardly hungry lifetime rewards. Out of spite I sell the toilet, and while I'm at it, the sink in the bathroom too. My Sims will have tooth decay but they can afford tooth implants. They work an hour less each day as well, and one less day each week. This means they have more time to hold meetings, which happen to be more lucrative. Both now wish to reach level 10 in business, which is natural. The promotions come swiftly at this point, and they both reach the level 10 power broker job.

Since I missed the 9am Monday payout, I didn't bother with investing in any businesses yet. They store up over $100,000 Simoleons that week. On Sunday, I send Ivanka, who will be the deed holder, to buy partnerships in the Science Lab, Stadium and Hospital. This occurs on week 4, day 1. They spend every waking moment holding meetings otherwise. Both Sims have the Multi-Tasker, Office Hero, Steel Bladder, Hardly Hungry and Dirt Defiant Lifetime Rewards. I consider all further lifetime happiness point gains useless at this point.

With both Sims as power brokers, they don't work many hours. Now job performance only serves to get them raises, which don't matter all that much with them working under a dozen hours a week each. I complete some wealth wishes, and decide to take the long distance friend lifetime reward. I hope this will serve to keep their co-worker relations from decaying.

On week 5, day 1, just 24 hours before the next payout from the deeds my Sims already own, Ivanka heads out and spends a load of cash on further investments. She snags every other partnership. They're now partners in all 11 businesses. Monday's 9am payout will be great, as she made it before the deadline.

Although some of the deeds were bought in the early morning on monday, my Sims get to collect all $36,650 simoleons that roll out at 9am monday morning. This is the total for having partnerships in all businesses in the Sims 3. Now they need to work their way toward ownership as quickly as possible. Much of the next few weeks will be exactly the same. Wake up, fulfill needs (not as hard with all those lifetime happiness rewards) and make money. The hardest will be the Science Lab at $100,000 Simoleons.

That week, after collecting all their profits from the business partnerships, and working hard at holding business meetings and making it to work on time, they manage to come up with the $100,000 they'll need to get ownership of the science facility. I'm going to do these buy outs in the exact same order as I did the partnerships. Ivanka takes ownership of the Science facility on Week 6, Day 1.

Wash, Rinse, Repeat. The routine is exactly the same this time. On week 7, day 1 Carl and Ivanka take ownership of the stadium for $80,000.

Week 8, Day 1 the Ivanka and Carl Sims take ownership of the hospital, theater and office building.

Week 9, Day 1 Ivanka makes her move and buys out every other property.

Week 10, Day 1 the duo stand at 128,000 simoleons, about a third of the way to their goal for buying gifts for the Donald's wife.

Ivanka and Carl work extra hard to complete as many meetings as possible the next week, and collect two weeks worth of earnings at once from the businesses they own on Week 11, Day 2. Just two more days of work and meetings and they finally have the roughly $337,000 simoleons needed to buy all the gifts at once. It worked perfectly, as they never had to pay a bill over $62. My final ending date was Week 11, Day 4.
