Challenges and Opportunities
This Sims 3 Guide was originally written for the PC and Mac versions of the game, but also will help owners of the console versions - PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. Please remember some info or numbers may have changed.
Challenges
There are a three cooking challenges in the The Sims 3. Here I'll give you some tips to help your Sims complete them faster.
Opportunities
The Cooking opportunities in general can be a bit tougher than other skills'. There are several types of opportunities for the skill: deliver ingredients, prepare food and deliver it to a building, or prepare group meals and give them to other Sims. There is a lot more required interaction with these opportunities.
I recommend when your Sim needs to deliver a group meal to another, you invite them over, and cook the meal while they're visiting. Drag it to your inventory from the counter and select the action by clicking the other Sim. This makes it easier, and if you need to whip up a second batch to appease them, they're right there and waiting.
Bad Apples - A Tad Bit Batty
After some testing, and with the help of a friend, we've decided to give this opportunity a big thumbs down. A tad bit batty's objective is to deliver ten bad quality apples (on a time limit). When Sims plant the tree, and wait for it to grow, there is a chance it will only be able to produce one batch of apples. This scenario is completely blown if your Sim has the gardening skill, or woe, the green thumb trait or super green thumb reward. The one batch of apples on a level 0 gardener produced 1 bad, and 3 normal apples. The time limit was up before the next batch of apples could come.
So, we can only hope that EA changes this opportunity. The bad apples have caused more Simmers headaches than any other opportunities. This shouldn't be so difficult, or the time limit should be removed. Also if they want to keep it 'bad' apples, they should consider making the seed you're given putrid, so that it will be easier to get bad apples. You wouldn't think it would be this hard.
Before people start emailing me, I want to say flatly and with 100% certainty that skimping on watering, or not weeding the plant will not lower its quality. Additionally, it will not help you to give the plant bad quality fertilizer. This just reduces the strength of the fertilizer, it doesn't harm the plant in any way. Death Fish won't work either. Omni plants are also finicky, producing some higher quality apples when fed a bad apple. It's unfortunate that I have to do this, but if you're being bothered by this opportunity, I say you cancel it until further notice.
