The Sims 3 University Life - A Nerd in the Comic Book Store

This Guide will teach you about the Nerd Social Group in The Sims 3 University Life. You don't join the Nerds, you naturally gain influence with them as your Sim performs certain tasks. Everything you do on this list contributes a little more influence, while unlocking various benefits for being a Nerd. Like the other two Social groups, if you reach level 8, you will unlock a social group trait slot for your Sim, allowing you to have an extra trait. With the academic trait slot for graduating University, you will have a total of seven traits on your Sim.

Have your Sim read comic books and play video games to fill the fun need and your influence with Nerds will gradually increase. Hanging out with other nerds and working on the Science skill are also great ways to get in with Nerds.

Click your Sim to 'Check Social Groups' to see the following list of activities that Sims can do to increase their standing with their fellow Nerds. This will also show you other Sims that you can meet in the group, as making friends with other Nerds will help you:

  • Ask other Nerds about their degree.
  • Tell stories or jokes to other Nerds.
  • Show other Sims gross videos from your phone (funny interaction)
  • Play video games
  • Solve equations on the whiteboard
  • Do Scientific research
  • Work on the group science project
  • Use the Brain Enhancing Machine (tech students start with this)
  • Throw things into bonfires!
  • Play arcade machines
  • Chat and Gossip with other Nerds
  • Compliment other Nerds
  • Socialize with prominent Nerds
  • Gossip about roommates to Nerds
  • Practice your pick-up lines on unsuspecting Nerds
  • Nerds like boasting about their gamer skillz
  • Nerds enjoy being enthused about comic books
  • Real Nerds do battle in trivia challenges!
  • Nerds berate ignorance when it rears its ugly head.

Metrics: Comic Books Read, Online Gaming Hours, Trivia Challenges Won.

Your influence with the Nerd group will go down over time if you don't do any of these actions.

Am I the only one that thinks the icon for the nerd social group looks like Moss from the IT Crowd?

Please help, does anyone knows how could you change the additional traits gained when graduate and reach high social group levels? I chose some traits and want to change them now, but the "modify sims traits" and "edit sims in create a sim" cheats option would only allow me to alter the original 5. Thanks a lot!

Answering years later, but to change the college trait you have to go and get another degree; when you graduate, you'll have the option to change that trait to something else. With the social groups, get max level in a different social group (or possibly lose and regain the one you had, I'm not sure) and you should get the option to pick something else.

Online gaming is not done on the computer, it is done on a console. Buy one of those and choose the option 'play online'.
