Carl's Sims 3 Guide - Skills, Traits, Careers, Rewards, and Lifetime Wishes for Ambitions and World Adventures

The Sims 3: Jack of All Trades Lifetime Wish Walkthrough

In this Sims 3 article, I'll be pursuing the Jack of All Traits Lifetime wish with a Sim named Jack. As you can tell, I'm a very creative person when it comes to naming Sims. Choosing traits for this lifetime wish can be tricky. I've selected the following traits for Jack:

Sims 3 Ambitious Trait IconAmbitious
Ambitious will give Jack a drive toward getting promotions quickly. He'll also get a bonus to all lifetime happiness points from completing wish.

Sims 3 Workaholic Trait IconWorkaholic
The Workaholic trait will trigger Jack of all Trades to appear as an option for his lifetime wish, although with a couple re-rolls necessary for it to pop up. Thankfully, it will double as a method to increase his work performance a lot.

Sims 3 Athletic Trait IconAthletic
Since two of my four career choices rely on the athletic skill, I chose this trait. It just makes sense. Athletes will gain levels in the athletic skill faster, hands down.

Sims 3 Schmoozer Trait IconSchmoozer
Schmoozer will help in every career he pursues as he chases his lifetime wish. This helps with inter-office communications and friendship building, and works well when you invite the boss over to schmooze them up a bit, especially if they're a snob who seems to love compliments.

Sims 3 Over Emotional Trait IconOver Emotional
This will serve to boost his mood by 25% for any positive moodlet he receives. It's invaluable to making an ultra-happy Sim.

Sims 3 Jack of All Trades Lifetime Wish IconLifetime Wish: Jack of All Trades
Jack wants to achieve this lifetime wish by ascending to level 5 in four career tracks. I've chosen pro sports, criminal, business and political. He'll climb to the level 5 promotion, then quit, in that order.

The plan is simple; He'll work on raising athletics first as he works in the first two tracks, then when he's tired he'll study charisma as often as it will allow him. Making friends by schmoozing should unlock those levels and put him in a nice position by the time he reaches the political career track.

A typical humble home for a Sim to start with in the Sims 3Getting Started in Professional Sports
I purchase Jack a cheap lot in Sunset Valley. He's not going to need to spend a lot of time worrying about money, because all the rapid promotions he'll receive will give him a great amount of cash pretty quickly. Surely enough to sustain him. He needs a good source of entertainment, so I purchase him a television where he'll watch tv for fun. His kitchen doesn't matter, as he won't pursue cooking. I give him a decent fridge to store leftovers so that he can prepare meals and have quick lunches that are more filling. An expensive bed is important for him, because he'll need plenty of energy to spend studying charisma and perhaps doing some working at home to score promotions easier while he's schmoozing at work instead of working hard.

Buffing up at the Gym to help my Sim earn promotions in the Sims 3's athletic career track. The first day, Jack heads to the city building to take a class in charisma, then hits the gym. He manages to make it to level two in athletics, not optimal for the military job he's joined but pretty good regardless, especially with his full mood bar the next morning. A tactic I discovered early -- prepare autumn salad before midnight and have that come next appear after sleeping. He scarfed the autumn salad before work, maximized his fun (even got in a morning job to fulfill a wish). I also bought him a cheap mirror so he could gussy up just to put the icing on the cake. He had time to call and chat with his boss before work to fulfill his social need as well.

The first day on the job, he doesn't get a promotion. He does meet a couple of co-workers, however. He'll schmooze them in the next session to gain some relationships because a promotion is inevitable. After work, he's flat exhausted from working out for four hours after getting off of work the previous day. He's now sitting at level 3 athletics and level 1 charisma. Here's hoping some chatting at work unlocks the ability to learn the second or third levels of that skill.

My Sim in the Sims 3 fails to get a promotion because he isn't athletic enough or good friends with his bossHe works at the computer to raise his work bar, and attempts to score a promotion with the boss, but they just aren't friendly enough. Therefore both requirements seem to be revealed, boss needs to think well of you and bar must be full to get the promotion outside the work place. I won't attempt it again unless the boss is a friend. Thankfully, the fourth day at work he gets a lot of progress toward making friends.

Studying in the Sims 3 Sunset Valley Library to improve the charisma skill for later pursuitsThe next day is his first day off. I have him jog to the fitness center (fulfilling a wish). This earns him level 4 in athletics, allowing him to turn in the 'Add it Up' athletics opportunity at the stadium. Doing so nets him a cash bonus of $350. He makes it part way to level 4 pumping iron but I stop him there. I don't want him to be exhausted yet. Afterward, a trip to the library lets him earn charisma level 2. He's only level 3 in athletics, so I want to use the rest of that time to suck up to his fellow employees so that he can have a rock solid 4 friends to go on for later charisma levels. He's saving up for the multi-tasker lifetime happiness reward.

That sunday, he wraps up his first full week as a pro sports Sim. He manages to befriend his boss, and all co-workers are in the friend zone as well. This helps a lot for when he gets more free time to raise charisma, however level 5 or 6 will be all that is necessary for a Jack of All Trades. His Charisma stands at level 3 with Athletics at level 4 and he's in the third job position in the Athletic career track. I had hoped that completing the 'Registering the Roster', along with another work at home session would set him up for some work at home and a successful promotion request by the boss, but it just doesn't happen. Either his athletics is too low or being Friends with the boss just isn't enough.

Want that Criminal or Athletic promotion in the Sims 3? Better ger your Sim to the gym, or at least doing some strength training on the televisionWith workaholic, I can normally gain a promotion per work day if the Sim works hard. In this case, I hope all that friend building pays off for the future. He spends one more day befriending co-workers to cement the relationships so they don't degrade too quickly, and snags the promotion to level 4. Just one to go and I intend to make tuesday his last day at work. He raises the performance bar substantially but doesn't get the promotion. Thankfully, the next two days give him a chance to raise the athletic skill another level, toward the 6 the job wants for peak performance. Working from home, he sets himself up for promotion. The next day, asking the boss finally pays off, as she's his good friend and he meets the job requirements. After being promoted, he immediately quits and takes the job in the criminal career track.

Becoming a Criminal
This should be very easy. Earning the level 5 promotion in pro sports gave him a nice boost in lifetime happiness points. He's able to afford the multi-tasker reward for 10,000 lifetime happiness points, It is one of my favorite rewards in the Sims 3. That's because it increases job performance by a high amount. With the other 5000 happiness points, he takes office hero. He'll have no trouble befriending co-workers at his next job.

Because of how scheduling works, although he could work the next day it is going to make him wait. I find this a fine opportunity to work on raising charisma for future jobs. While he's reading, and having reached level 5 charisma, he gets an opportunity to do some various workouts, such as swimming and jogging for 30 minutes. I do this, then have him head to the day spa. I want him to have an easier time being happy all next week and a $1,000 Simoleons is not a lot to ask for such a benefit.

I push him hard the first day at work, but Jack likes working hard. He earns a promotion his first day in the criminal career. I tried meeting his accomplices before the day was up, but this failed to meet anyone new. He has a desire to work from the computer, so I oblige. If I raise the bar some, he can savely spend the entire next day meeting accomplices and not worry about missing out on a promotion. This works well until the third level job. He gets an opportunity to work late, which I take. This causes him to meet the wall where he must go in to work at least 24 hours later and cannot attend work that tuesday, otherwise he would have nailed level 5. I decide I'll spend his day off calling old friends who have slipped a bit, and bring them back to friendship status. He then heads to the library and reaches level 7 in the charisma skill.

The next day at work finally comes, and Jack the Sim manages to score the level 5 promotion as well as friendships with all his accomplices, all in five work days.

Want that promotion in the Sims 3 after work hours? Become great friends with the boss and ask when they're in a good mood and you've met all the promotion requirements.Tackling Business
Again, with my preparations this will be extremely easy. All those friends have led to him having nearly level 8 in charisma, he's an office hero and he has the multi-tasker reward. He immediately quits the criminal career and heats to the business office to 'clean up his life' and get a real job. Early job level Business requires only mood and boss relationships, things Jack the Sim has already mastered. He has the weekend off, because of his monday to friday job schedule. He takes Saturday and gets himself in a great mood, serves some food and buys a loveseat to watch television with the boss. She becomes his best friend in a single day. Now the boss performance metric is green.

A Sim practicing speed in the mirror to raise his charisma skill in the Sims 3It's Week 4, day 1 so he has spent three solid weeks working on his lifetime wish to be a Jack of All Trades. Thankfully, business is going to be a cinch. He uses that sunday to further his charisma even more, which seems practically useless at this point. He also gets in several hours working from home done. At the end of the day, he makes a trip to the day spa to take the great escape package again to cement his good mood. He wraps up attaining level 5 in the business career very quickly.

Working from home is a great way to get started if your Sim intends to befriend co-workers all day at work the next day. It's one of the best tips for getting promotions quickly in the Sims 3, but the Sim must be a workaholic.Joining Public Service - The Political Job
Working from home has allowed Jack to spend his entire first day at work meeting co-workers. Unfortunately, he only meets one of them. This completes the charisma skill's Celebrity challenge, which will make it even easier to make friends, especially since he also has enough lifetime happiness points to purchase the Attractive lifetime reward, which has a similar effect. From here, it's a simple matter of using the weekend to become best friends with Vita Alto, who is now Jack's boss. He climbs swiftly to the top after reading the book about Hanging Chads. A little work at home and meeting co-workers was used, but unnecessary. These career choices could have helped him complete his Jack of All Trades Lifetime Wish Quickly, however days off slowed him down. At least he was able to use them productively. His final levels were 8 in charisma and 8 in athletics, with multiple lifetime happiness rewards that make him an extremely likeable fellow.

At level 5 in the political career track of the Sims 3, my Sim has finally completed the Jack of All Trades Lifetime WishUpon reaching level 5 in the political career track, he's fulfilled his lifetime wish. I must say, this Sim is not very rich because his skills of choice were not money-makers. He missed out on all the bonuses from the higher paying jobs. I think at this juncture the business career would be the choice he'd settle on because with friends and meetings as the only metrics, he'd be rolling in cash.
