This Sims 3 Guide was originally written for the PC and Mac versions of the game, but also will help owners of the console versions - PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii. Please remember some info or numbers may have changed.
In this section of my Charisma guide, I'll list some of the traits that benefit Sims seeking to master the art of socializing in the Sims 3. These are, in my opinion, the best traits for a charisma Sim.
Charismatic
This trait is the most obvious choice, and provides the single best boost to the charisma skill. This helps in a plethora of ways. Firstly, it will of course make your Sim learn charisma levels faster. They'll also be better in a number of ways in conversations by being less boring, and more rarely causing a negative reaction. For learning the skill early on, this Sim also starts with a charisma skill book that should take the charismatic Sim to level 3.
This trait is a must for political Sims, as they'll have better luck asking for campaign funding. This is a job performance factor, along with the charisma skill itself. The final, and perhaps best perk of this trait is that the friendship bar will move faster when your Sim succeds at positive social interactions.
Flirty
If your Sim wants to not only make friends, but also find lovers, consider taking the flirty trait. It's useless to Sims that don't seek to romanticize unhibitidly though. It makes it so that flirting can be successful more early on in the friendship. They'll also be good at giving massages and fail less when flirting.
Friendly
The Friendly trait goes great with charismatic. It helps to lend an extra boost to friendly interactions, like chatting with, and getting to know, other Sims. Friendly Sims will also avoid getting upset when other Sims repeat themselves. This will help to avoid some of the negative conversations that can come up in free will mode, and will also be nicer in general under free will. Several social interactions appear for friendly Sims under the Special category. These can help your Sim to mix up conversation better, to avoid boring others.
Good
If your Sim will live autonomously, consider taking this trait, as they'll be more friendly to other Sims when acting on their own. This ensures when they talk, they're a nice person that other Sims will like. In addition to this behavior, they also won't freak out and get upset at other Sim as often when they say something wrong or mean. They'll also boost other Sims' moods by givng them a special comforted moodlet.
Good Sense of Humor
This trait is very helpful for gaining friends while pursuing the comedian charisma challenge. It helps to boost the quality of your Sim's jokes, and gives them a number of joke interactions to play with. Since it takes 100 jokes to complete the comedian challenge, the Sim had best get cracking. This will help ensure that the jokes they tell help to boost the friendship, rather than falling flat. Look under the special sub-menu, good sense of humor for the special interactions. This also helps with initial relationship, so it's helpful to guitar players who want to be celebrities.
Schmoozer
Schmoozer Sims are people pleasers. Taking the Schmoozer trait will help your Sim to kiss butt at work, and compliment others. Both are good ways to make friends, and it will boost both departments. In fact, compliments just won't fail, and the Sim gains the praise and flatter interactions. This is great for a politician, because it can also help with getting Sims to agree to campaign contributions.
