Resort Towers
Resort Towers are for Sims
visiting the Resort. They are rabbit holes that can hold
dozens of Sims. When checking into Tower Rooms with your
Sims, even if you go for a Luxury Suite (VIP Room), you can
still use Resort Towers to Freshen Up and Woohoo in them,
however.
All Resort Towers can be upgraded aside from the Bungalow. The Upgrade costs and maintenance costs are listed in the table here. Each starts at level one, but can be upgraded twice. This increases the guest capacity, and at level 3 unlocks spa services which are great. Click a Tower to enable Room Service, which guests really like - for the first two levels, this only increases maintenance cost by $25. At max level, all towers charge an increased $50 for Room Service and $50 for Spa Services. Your Sim can even take advantage of this, and save tons of money on visits to the Day Spa.
Having higher-grade and more Towers will raise your Star Rating, either through higher capacity or prettier buildings.

VIP Rooms
VIP Rooms (Luxury Suites) rent for 50%
more than Tower rooms. The guest capacity they add to your
resort is based on the number of beds in the VIP area. You
can have more than one VIP area, each with its own amenities.
There is a 20% chance that a visiting Sim will check into a
VIP room. If it weren't for the fact that the game requires you to have at least one tower and front desk on your Resort (or the resort closes), you could try to run a Resort with just VIP areas,
although it would not be as profitable as using Towers for
they hold many more Sims than you could fit beds in a similar
space -- and what VIP room would be worth checking into if it
were just a bed?
To add a VIP room, simply build a room or building on your Resort lot. When done, add a door to the front and click it in Live mode. You will have the option to add a new VIP Door Lock, which means only Sims that check into a Luxury Suite can access that area.
Adding a VIP Room or two to your Resort will boost its star rating. While Sims are inside a VIP room, any motives they are increasing will go up 20% faster or decline 20% slower.

Hello! I built a resort and opened it, but I noticed that the resort tower and VIP rooms were free and couldn't figure out how to get them to cost money, so I gain no profit when Sims come to stay. How can I fix this?
Admin:
If you own the resort, you don't have to pay. Try selling the resort and renting a room to find out the true cost.

Whenever i build my own VIP room and click on the door to add a VIP lock, my maintenance workers cannot clean or whatever they got to do.
And it doesn't add up to the total amount of guest capacity.
Is this just a bug or something, or am I doing something wrong? (sorry for my bad English)

This may be a glitch. Try to clear your caches and restart the whole computer then load up to see if that helps.

Sorry I couldn't offer much more advice. I didn't have this issue so I'm not sure how to help you at this time. If you wouldn't mind, I would suggest signing up for our Sims 3 forum and asking there. The staff and community is one of the friendlist and most helpful I've ever met.

I have the same issue. I built 3 VIP rooms and the bathrooms are always filthy and broken. I had to unset the lock and have my "owner" Sim Repair everything, including the TV, and then make everything Unbreakable. It took many many Sim (and RL) days and I had to reset the lock before and after each visit. Of course, every time I unset the lock, the maintenance staff came running to clean the bathroom. I'm guessing this is a bug that EA, as usual, has failed to fix. My owner Sim has been so busy with fixing and upgrading every single thing on my property that he will likely die before he can fulfill his lifetime want! BTW, unless you want to upgrade everything to unbreakable, know that every Sim day will bring many broken items and broken items equals cockroaches and cockroaches equal 4 1/2 stars instead of 5!

I had the same issue. all my vip rooms were on stilts over the ocean and I hadnt connected the path properly. try sending a sim to the resort and see if they can get in the room at all. I tryed to get my sim to clean it themselves and tey couldnt walk up the patch cos id botched it. seems the guests could get in and out but not my sims or staff.

My resort is doing great! Four and a half stars so far. My concern is that I never actually see any guests.... I get reviews and the occupancy is 50/50. Are the guests invisible or is my game glitch? :/ Thanks for the awesome tutorials, by the way! So helpful!!

This all depends on your PC I believe. I only ever saw one or two people walking around. Do you have VIP rooms?

So I've spent the last 3 days building this beautiful 3 story luxury resort atop a mountain, overlooking the ocean, only to find out I have to have a stupid resort tower.
I built one underground in the basement so it would be out of site.
I want to make all the rooms I built, VIP rooms, however when clicking the doors in live mode the only option I'm getting, is to extend stay, or purchase property.
1st question: Does my sim have to own the resort to make any changes?
2nd question: I found the rugs to use instead of the tower, and downloaded the files (which were not extractable like every other mod I've found and used, weird)... but when I added the file to my mods folder, it's not showing in the list of mods at the start up of game, and I'm not seeing them in build/buy mode ANYWHERE! Did I do something wrong, or are the mods no good? Any idea where to find one that works?

Yes, your sim needs to own a resort to make changes. Sorry can't help you with your mod question, try asking on the site that you downloaded the mod from.

On hobarts hide away there is a bungalow on the water where guests can stay, it's the VIP suite, one of those.

Do you want it for a house or do you want it for your resort? The easiest way to do this would be to use the new stilted foundations to make a pier like they did before. If you want it to be a VIP room, make sure to add all the needed items like a bed, bathroom, etc. If you want it as a house to live in, same thing - you'll need to use the stilted foundations on a plot of land that is over the water.

Real shame you can't customize towers as I would love to make a mountain retreat but the beach huts just look strange - would have liked to see more types with different upgrades. Adventure / couples family etc. Enjoyable but to simplistic to add much to the game

1 thing , Underground ??Like, you can add diner areas underground , ow about vip rooms ??Pools its impossable , jakuzi too , try the diner, longe and the loby and looks good, but dony know how to do the vips ones (underground) they can be rooms in a baseman right ?? just need a vip door ?!??!Regards

I just finished building an entire resort complete with 3 suites, 7 large guest rooms, 6 small guest rooms( I used blueprints, the small ones are the rooms with two beds the large have one larger bed.) but anyway i also included two dining areas a gym two bars and im about to add a pool and so on, but i just clicked done and it says i need a tower too, does this mean that i would have to (Or should) delete all the guest rooms?? if i place one tower will people still check into the guest rooms?

Yes you have to have a tower but you can have it plus the guest rooms. The guest rooms are more for VIP than normal guests though.

No sorry, I don't know what mod you are using but your best bet is to ask the mod creator or on the website you downloaded the mod from.

I made a resort on one of the beaches, and it seems that the one reason that its not getting more stars is because its infested with cockroaches, how do I get rid of them? I love your site, you are very helpful, I have learned a lot from you!

Look underground. There have been issues of roaches appearing underground. You may want to turn on buydebug to see the spawners.

I couldn't get past 4 1/2 stars until I found out about the "hidden" cockroaches. Underground I found 4 boxes so I deleted them. Then I found 2 piles of trash on the rooftop! The bug generator was hanging around in the sky and couldn't be dealt with. I had to MO on to get it to the ground so my Sim could "stomp" them. The last piece of the puzzle was the fact that everything breaks ALL THE TIME! I had to spend NUMEROUS Sim (and RL) days getting my Sim to go everyday to upgrade every single plumbing object to Unbreakable. Truly, TRULY, annoying. The maintenance staff doesn't seem to repair anything and you cannot call in help. What in the world were the EA people thinking?

I have a 4 1/2 Resort and my Sim wants to upgrade the Beach Tower again. I already upgraded two times, I think... But it was while with 3 stars... Now the option to Upgrade the Tower does not appear anymore... How do I do it? thx

Sounds like you have your existing ones already maxed out so you'll have to buy another one to upgrade.

Make sure you are either placing the Beach Resort Tower or the Eco-Modern Resort Tower to meet the games requirements.

It told me it wont allow me to reopen until its improved, although, theirs nothing else I could possibly do to it. I think its all to do with costs. Have you clicked on the resort tower rabbit hole and selected upgrade? You can also click on the front desk and select "Improve Resort" which will direct you to the build and buy modes. I tend to close my resorts upon purchase/building, and then reopen them once they're fully set-up.

You can tell by if it's available for an upgrade. The price of the upgrade tells you which stage it's in.

By building VIP rooms (using room blueprints, or just building them yourself) and selecting "Set VIP lock" (clicking on the door to the room after building) you will have rooms for guests that aren't rabbit holes. The tower just adds to your capacity and some additional services.

Can you talk a little bit more about the VIP locks? I have two VIP rooms, but when I go to the resort as someone else, a VIP room is not available, even though as the resort owner, I set VIP door locks. Only rooms available are tower rooms. Am I missing something? Thank you.

That could just mean that the VIP rooms have already been let out to townies. VIP rooms aren't reserved solely for player controlled Sims.

Do you have the money to do it? Just click on the towers themselves and it should be an option. Make sure to remove any CC and mods if it continues.

I was feeling very ambitious & made 8 VIP rooms. When I was assigning the VIP doors, the bubble gave options for different VIP numbers (0-6 I believe). What exactly does that mean? And can the rooms have the same number?

If you want rooms to have the same number they can. You can assign rooms different VIP access numbers though too.
